Containing 187 images, several of which are in colour. Hans Prinzhorn and Karl Willmanns, then Head of the Psychiatric University Hospital, sent circulars between 1919 and 1921 to psychiatric hospitals in German-speaking countries. The artistic works of the patients they requested were intended for the creation of a museum of psychopathological art. In 1922, Prinzhorn published on the basis of the collection his richly illustrated < em > Artistry of the Mental Ill. Received with passion from his time's art scene, it quickly became the Surrealists' Bible as soon as possible. The book has been edited many times, and has been translated into various languages. It remains a classic to this day. It has pioneered the therapeutic art industry. It was the first attempt to examine the mentally ill's drawings not only psychologically but also esthetically. Prinzhorn presents the works of ten "schizophrenic masters," now held in the Prinzhorn Collection at Heidelberg University Hospital, with an in-depth esthetic study of each of their work and even full-color reproductions.
